GUY Ritchie has hit out at Madonna’s brother for writing a ‘tell-all’ book, which claims the director is homophobic.

The Snatch director insists he isn’t bothered by Christopher Ciccone’s book, Life With My Sister Madonna, which made a series of allegations about the Material Girl’s private life.

But Guy denies Mr. Ciccone’s claim he is homophobic – saying Madonna wouldn’t stand for it.

Guy said: “I don’t make anything of the book. The poor chap wrote it out of desperation.

“I don’t think it’d be intelligent to comment on that. I can’t give too much equity in what the chap’s going to write in that book.

“But you’d be hard pushed to be a homophobe and marry Madonna.”

There are no plans to make the latest James Bond novel, Devil May Care, into a movie, 007 filmmakers have said.

Producer Barbara Broccoli, of Eon Productions, told Variety magazine the company “loved” the novel, written by Birdsong author Sebastian Faulks.

But “because it is set in the 1960s, we haven’t considered making it in the near future”, she added.

The book, published in May to mark the centenary of the birth of Bond creator Ian Fleming, won rave reviews.

A spokeswoman for Eon said it had not ruled out a future Devil May Care film.

Hardback record

Faulks had previously said Eon liked the book but that it was up to them if they made it into a film.

The author, who is best known for historic novels including Charlotte Gray, was selected by Fleming’s estate to write the centenary novel.

As part of his research, Faulks read all the original Bond stories to capture Fleming’s style.

The book become publisher Penguin’s fastest-selling hardback fiction title, selling 44,093 copies in its first four days of publication.

By comparison, previous Penguin best-sellers by Tom Clancy and Nick Hornby have sold about 11,500 copies in their first four days.

The forthcoming Bill Maher/Larry Charles satirical doc Religulous has been on Lionsgate’s release calendar for what seems like forever; we remember seeing teaser posters for it at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival, where it was recently announced as a world premiere this year. Confusing! But not as confusing as the revelation that you and yours can see the film this week in one of those increasingly en vogue “Oscar dump runs” in LA and New York. The tactic mirrors that of HBO, which last spring sneaked Roman Polanski: Wanted and Desired into two theaters to qualify for Oscar consideration — except that Religulous actually has an Oct. 3 release date in the States. So what gives, and where can you see it? Find out after the jump.

Academy rules dictate that documentaries must screen for at least one week in Los Angeles County and Manhattan before the qualifying deadline of August 31. Thus, if you’re up for a schlep out to the Laemmle Claremont 5 or, in NYC, the Coliseum Quad in Washington Heights, you can be the among the first to see Maher and Charles torment the Christian Right and other supposed fanatics. The early run is especially unusual in the context of Toronto, where the “premiere” classification is generally sacrosanct for distributed films of this size and budget. But hey — it is just Claremont, and most observers seem to agree that major papers won’t run reviews the way they did for Polanski, potentially undercutting the unveiling up North.
